Thinking Outside the (TV) Box
One of the things we really liked when we bought our house was the amount of storage space available. I’m rather an organizational freak and like everything to have a place.
The only thing I didn’t have suitable space for were my cookbooks. They were kept on a counter top, out of the way. I hated this. The books were in the way and my kitchen doesn’t have an abundance of counter space to begin with.
Some of you may remember when we dropped the cable TV about 18 months ago. We still had the basic channels, so the TV in the kitchen stayed put and the girls got to enjoy PSB in the morning. But then came the digital conversion. Even with the special box we could only get the local CBS station so the TV was never turned on.

Out With the Old
So, when I was in Asheville a couple weeks ago I gave Doug a simple assignment- take the TV out of the space. It wasn’t being used and we had no reason to keep it. Luckily our town was hosting an electronics recycling event that weekend… When I came home it was gone.

In With the Cookbooks
And, in it’s place went my cookbooks. Which freed up counter space, put the cookbooks out of the way and more easily accessible to me. I also moved some of the things off the built in kitchen desk- so we now have more room there, too.
Less clutter, more organization. Plus an outlet behind those books- just in case I need it for holiday decorating.

ha! Not enough counter space.. paaahhhlleezzzzeee.. have you seen my counters? no? well I have maybe 1/4 of what you have.. MAYBE! and I keep my cookbook (yes one) on top of the fridge, the others are in the “office”. lol.. you would laugh at my cooking attempts, though they still turn out just fine. lol.. ur funny
Such a good idea! I had all my cookbooks on the counter in the old house, and they were always in the way. I love having more storage now, they are kept out of the way.
