Got Milk? at the Iowa State Fair
The Iowa State Fair is known for lots of things: food on a stick, all kinds of farm animals, foods not on a stick and lots of free fun. For the $10 admission you can do a lot without spending another dime (food not included).
New to the free-fun line up this year is the Milk Mustache Mobile Tour. Yep, the “Got Milk” people will be in the Kids Fun Forest the first weekend of the fair- August 15 thru 17 with free activities like:
- Souvenir Milk Mustache photos
- Chair massages (personally I’ll be wanting a foot massage. Just sayin’)
- Smoothie samples
- Ice cold milk from Anderson Erickson, Roberts & Nestle
- Health assessments from a registered dietician
- Enter for a chance to win a prize from Real Simple magazine- including a healthy meal from a personal chef and a year’s supply of milk
I know there are a lot of people out there who say that dairy is bad in one way or another. But did you know that milk has nine essential nutrients: calcium, vitamin D, protein, phosphorus, riboflavin, vitamin B-12, vitamin A, potassium & niacin. OK, so I’m not really sure what all those vitamins do… Clacium and vitamin D are good for bone strength; high potassium content helps with blood pressure; but the rest… Well, they are called “essential nutrients” for a reason.
Studies also suggest that milk drinkers have healthier diets and are likely to be leaner than people who drink little to no milk. (See the New Face of Wellness Report) Hmmm… Can 250 celebrities steer me wrong? (Don’t answer that!)
To celebrate the Milk Mustache Tour coming through Des Moines I have 3 “Got Milk” goodie bags to give away.

Got Milk Goodies
A reuseable tote, a frisbee, a lanyard, a Tshirt & the New Face of Wellness Report. Tell me how much milk you drink. I will randomly pick 3 winners based on the answers August 18, when I share our Milk Mustache photos with you.

Sadly, growing up on a dairy farm, you’d think I’d be a better milk drinker, but I’m not. My kids? Can go through a gallon of milk in two days. Yep. Two days. They love it!
And guess what – we are going to be at the State Fair this year – the nephews 4H projects have been selected to go – so we will be there to check them out! Can’t wait – get to see the Butter Cow in person… (I know, the highlight of the day!!) Have a great time at fair!
Our family of five can go through a gallon of milk in a day. Every single one of us drinks the fine moo juice. I have been known to limit the amount, like I do candy. and then laugh at myself for doing such a thing. Warm milk at night has soothed many the nervous bellies in our house.
We do TONS of milk in our house. I can’t drink it, but my Hubby has three glasses a day, and the kids about that much too. Boo loves making her own milk mustache! We love our state fair for one HUGE reason, .50 all you can drink milk. The kids go nuts! lol
Thanks
Let’s just say that I don’t drink nearly enough…maybe one glass a week? But I go through phases where I will drink a glass or two a day.
OOH! Just wanted to also post a little thing that Dave would be proud of! Take a trip to HyVee and you can purchase advance tix to the fair at a discounted rate- $7 instead of $10, I do believe. We’re heading up this Friday
I don’t drink milk- at all! The only time I have it is with a cookie.. and since I don’t eat those anymore.. it’s all downhill.. Though I will have milk with my cereal, coffee & tea. Kids drink it all the time.. but I only allow the required amount of 24 oz a day, otherwise we be broke on milk!
What is a lanyard? Don’t answer that, I will google!
