There was great rejoicing in my house the other day when a box arrived at the door.  OK, there is always great rejoicing when we get packages…  No, there isn’t much excitement in my house but more than that, packages mean stuff.  And who doesn’t like to get stuff?!?

And this package was especially intriguing as it had this bright orange sticker on it.  Of course it led to an English lesson about what perishable means…

And then inside the box another, even more exciting sticker… Anything day-glo orange proclaiming danger is exciting.

Of course I ignored the warning and used my bare hands.  Very carefully, of course.  And here is what was revealed after I moved the dry ice.

OK, who wouldn’t be excited to have ice cream delivered to their door?

Because my favorite ice cream when we visit our local creamery is cheesecake I chose the Strawberry Cheesecake flavor- there are 10 others, including caramel tracks and cookie & cream; it was a rather difficult decision.

The new Breyers Smooth & Dreamy ice cream comes with a few key claims for someone who enjoys good ice cream and is trying to lose weight.

1. Half the fat and 1/3 the calories of regular ice cream
2. All natural (I could actually pronounce every ingredient listed!)
3. Extra creamy

So, how did it fare?  Quite well, actually.  I could see the creaminess as I scooped it out of the carton; it rolled nicely around my ice cream scoop.

The ribbons of strawberry wound through the carton; every scoop was decorated with it.  The strawberry flavor was pronounced but not overwhelming.

Personally I wish the cheesecake flavor had been a bit stronger; but I like a bit of bite to my cheesecake.  Doug and the girls both found the flavor to be very nice.  The cheesecake and strawberry flavors blended together wonderfully, neither overpowering the other.

Overall we were very impressed with the Breyers Smooth & Dreamy and will likely purchase it in the future.  Especially since a visit to the creamery adds up to way too many calories and a larger-than-necessary portion of ice cream!
