I Need a New Hairstyle… I Think…
I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. As in “I used to love it, now I hate it”. My hair… I have a lot of it but it has changed since I’ve had kids. What little bit of body it used to have has disappeared. I do, however, have a lot of hair… And it is fine. So fine, in fact, that stylists are often amazed at just how much hair I have on my head.
My hair grows quickly, so drastic colors are difficult to maintain. Not impossible, but expensive.
Here’s what I have going on right now…
The last time I had my hair cut and colored was mid-January, right before I went to Blissdom. We then moved to Massachusetts and I wasn’t able to find a salon close by that could get me in for a cut when I was available.
While this “style” doesn’t annoy me terribly, it just doesn’t feel like it has any definite style. And I feel blah. Especially when I don’t have the time to style it- like today… Or most days, then it’s just in a ponytail… blah.
I uploaded my photo into TheHairStyler.com, paid $9.95 and played with styles.
I had to upload a couple different photos as your face has to line up with their grid so the hair “sits” on your head correctly. As you’ll see in a moment, I have a very square jaw and, according to their grid my ears are low. Because the styles are “cut out” they sit rather heavily on your photo.
My take on this site? Save your money unless you really want to play with colors and drastic cuts. I think people have a pretty good idea of what looks good on them and a competent stylist can easily create a great style to fit your face and coloring if you just give them leeway.
Anyway, here are my results… In both dark brown and dark red.

These were the styles that looked best. Notice anything? Like the fact that they are all very similar? And all pretty low maintence. And, honestly, not too terribly different from what I have now. *sigh*
Another thought I have is something along the lines of Mariska Hargitay, a-la this Ladies Home Journal cover (January 2009) which is, I swear, diffrent than the one I sw at the vet’s office…
But she’s so stinkin’ cute and has a rather square jaw. And she always looks great. I suppose a stylist will do that for you…
So, what say you? Leave your comments and tell me what to do with my hair… Cut, color, style… Should I let it grow? Cut it off? Color it a ravishing red?
I’m setting an appointment for sometime the week of the 22nd. Give me your opinions & why. The winning haircut is what I’ll get!

I like #4 or #8 (they look so similar) but I really like your style now. I can’t really tell what color your hair is now…it looks dark with maybe a little reddish cast. Please don’t go read. I think they only pretty redheads are the natural red-heads. Light up a little with some honey or MAYBE auburn highlights but I really love your hair now.
I am a huge fan of red…do it every winter. The only problem is in the summer it will fade really fast, especially since you are outside a ton with the family.
I would do carmel highlights with the Mariska hair cut. If I actually took the time to do my hair (and wasn’t terrified of short hair) I would get that cut.
I like the number 5. Some of those just look odd. But you are very pretty so any of those should work.
I like 5 and 8, okay they are the same except for color. Keep in mind that what is making Mariska look all glowy n stuff is the subtle highlights – not impossible, but you know, maintenance. I loved when you did the Posh cut, but is that too dated now, or too boring cuz you had it already? Let’s face it, you’ll be hot no matter what you pick – just don’t pull a Brit Spears in your frustration! LOL
I like 3 & 5, but they don’t look much different than your current style…short hair to me always takes more work…but I do like Mariska’s look and you could pull it off (just looks like it takes a little volumizer and a hairdryer)!
I say go for the Mariska cut! Super cute and you can totally pull it off! You’re gorgeous no matter what haircut you choose.
I like #3 or #5. I think hilights would be better than all over color. Give it some depth and spunkiness. And don’t forget about the bangs. They may drive you crazy. Can’t wait to see what you choose!
I think that no matter what you do it’s going to look great.. I like #3, 6 and 7 but yeah, since it’s not really totally makeoverable… unless you go SUPER short then I suggest going with some really BOLD highlights! You have amazing eyes, go with something that’s going to make them POP!
Number 5!!!!
I like #3 & 5.. looks like you have those selected in red too.. maybe some gold highlights like Mariska Hargitay… either way you will look great!
